About Animals I Know:

Medieval bestiaries were short explanations of animals, and sometimes plants and rocks. We might call them moral explanations of the natural world. I don’t think a medieval person would have called them that; there was hardly any such distinction between natural and moral to be made. It was just “the world.” Or “creation,” more likely. I don’t know, I’m not a medievalist.

But I think these little glimpses of ordinary animals I live among is sort of in the same spirit. All these things around me have biographies. So I am trying to pay attention.

Also, I speak as if I’m the dog all the time.
